Tradition Fishing Charters is a full-service operation for Perdido Key fishing charters, running deep sea, offshore and inshore trips on the Gulf of Mexico from its home base on Perdido Key Drive, about 20 miles southwest of downtown Pensacola. With three federally permitted vessels and a fleet that can take up to 34 anglers a day, it’s set up for everything from a family inshore outing to a full day chasing red snapper and amberjack. Capt. Miles Howell is among the captains running trips.

The Tradition Fleet

The flagship is The Tradition, a 48-foot custom charter boat that is U.S. Coast Guard certified for up to 25 passengers and has air conditioning and a full bathroom. Bait, tackle, fishing licenses for everyone on board, and safety and first-aid equipment are all supplied. The fleet also includes The Fever Reliever, a 37-foot Topaz with an air-conditioned cabin, galley and head, and a 28-foot Contender with twin Yamaha four-strokes, a marine toilet and Spot-Lock trolling motor. Smaller center consoles from 22 to 24 feet handle inshore trips.

Perdido Key Fishing Charters: Trip Options

  • Shared deep sea trip: join other anglers on a trip into deeper Gulf waters for $160 per person, with gear, tackle, bait and guidance included. It’s a good option for solo anglers and small groups.
  • Private deep sea charter: the boat is yours for a personalized offshore trip after red snapper, grouper and amberjack.
  • Private offshore charter: nearshore and offshore fishing for king mackerel, cobia and snapper.
  • Private inshore charter: a family-friendly trip in the bays and along the beaches for redfish, speckled trout and flounder, with hands-on instruction for beginners.

Trips can be booked in 2-, 4-, 6- or 8-hour lengths, depending on the trip type. Contact the office for private charter rates.

What You Can Catch off Perdido Key and Pensacola

The Gulf off Perdido Key is known for red snapper, and federally permitted boats like Tradition’s can fish the federal for-hire season. Offshore anglers also catch grouper, amberjack, triggerfish, mahi-mahi, king and Spanish mackerel and cobia. Inshore, the bays produce redfish (including big bull reds in the fall), speckled trout, flounder and sheepshead. Many Gulf species have strict seasons, so the crew will tell you what’s open on your trip date.

Serving Perdido Key, Pensacola and Orange Beach

From its dock on Perdido Key, Tradition fishes waters close to Pensacola, Florida and Orange Beach, Alabama, so it’s convenient for visitors staying anywhere along this stretch of the Gulf Coast.
