Mystic Rose runs Jupiter bottom fishing charters on a 35-foot sportfishing boat docked at Castaway’s Marina, tucked behind the Square Grouper Tiki Bar near the Jupiter Inlet. That short run to the inlet puts the boat on the reefs and ledges along the edge of the Gulf Stream within minutes, where Jupiter’s narrow continental shelf brings deep water and big fish close to shore. Trips are limited to six anglers, so everyone gets hands-on attention from the crew.

Meet the Captain

Captain Jay York, a USCG 100-ton master, founded Mystic Rose in 2008. He grew up fishing on his father’s boat off New York and spent more than 20 years as a commercial rod-and-reel tuna fisherman before moving to Jupiter. Today his focus is putting families and groups on fish they can take home for dinner.

Trips and Rates

There are two daily departures: a morning half day from 7:30 to 11:30 am and an afternoon half day from 12:30 to 4:30 pm.

  • Shared (public) trip: $120 per person, joining other anglers on board
  • Private 8-hour full day: $1,440 for up to six

Rates don’t include crew gratuity (20% is customary). Reservations are recommended, with 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or changes to party size. Gift certificates are available.

What’s Included

Every trip includes rods, reels, tackle, fresh bait and fishing licenses for all anglers. Beginners get rigged rods, a quick lesson and baited hooks; experienced anglers can bring their own gear, and braid is allowed. At the dock the captain fillets your catch and bags it in zip-top bags, or you can take fish whole if you bring your own cooler. Taxidermy mounts can be arranged through the captain.

What You’ll Catch

Most trips anchor or drift over Jupiter’s reefs for mutton, mangrove, yellowtail and lane snapper, plus red, black and gag grouper and porgies. Cobia, kingfish, mahi-mahi and sharks are common bonuses, and the crew also trolls when sailfish, wahoo or tuna are around.
