Family Tradition Sport Fishing | Fort Lauderdale Private Fishing Charter

Family Tradition Sport Fishing runs a Fort Lauderdale private fishing charter aboard Freebird, a 39-foot Yellowfin center console rigged with tournament-grade tackle and electric reels. Capt. Richard Fairbanks grew up fishing South Florida, has spent about 35 years at sea and is the son of Capt. John Fairbanks. He co-founded the company in 2022 with Bill Quinn, who had fished with him as a client for more than 20 years. Your group of up to six has the boat to itself.

Charter Packages

• 4 hours: $999. A good first trip, fishing for snapper, grouper, mahi and tuna.
• 6 hours: $1,499. The most popular option, with time to target sailfish as well.
• 8 hours: $1,899. A full day for sailfish, grouper, snapper and more.
• 10 hours: call for pricing. The longest trip, with time to chase swordfish and other big game.

Prices cover up to six guests, and the site is currently offering $100 off trips of six hours or longer. The standard departure is 8 AM, and afternoon trips are available on request.

Where You’ll Fish

Longer trips run 10 to 40 miles offshore into 1,500 to 1,800 feet of water for swordfish, sailfish, tuna, kingfish, wahoo, bonito, white marlin and sharks, while shorter trips work the reefs for snapper and grouper and troll for mahi. What’s biting depends on the season, so ask Capt. Richard what to target when you book.

Live bait for certain species costs extra. The 10-hour trip also includes a 24-pack of the beverages of your choice; on shorter trips, bring your own beer if you’d like some.
